Feature Finishing Artist Thom Whitehead came to Company 3 Santa Monica in late 2015 after five years as a feature conform artist at Deluxe’s Hollywood Way location in Burbank. Specializing in feature film conform—Autodesk Flame (previously branded as Smoke) VFX and compositing work—Whitehead moved to Deluxe in 2008. This followed Deluxe’s purchase of Pair of Hands, the editorial and finishing company that Whitehead had been running since 2002, providing finishing as well as film editing services, primarily to episodic and documentary television series. Recent feature projects include the Insurgent follow-up, Allegiant and the intense drama, All I See is You.
Before opening Pair of Hands, Whitehead was at Hollywood-based Post Logic, where he was among the first artists to work in the then-new area of nonlinear finishing. Prior to that, he provided linear online editing services on commercials and TV shows at a number of Los Angeles-area post houses. This extensive experience—on a range of projects across various genres—allowed him to form a comprehensive understanding of the creative and technical challenges involved in finishing processes. A multiple-generation native of Cincinnati, OH, Whitehead graduated from Ohio University with a BA in Radio and Television.
