Senior re-recording mixer Christian Cooke is a two-time-Oscar® Nominated and Emmy® Award-winning artist with over 140 film and television credits in his outstanding many-years-long career at the mixing board. A second-generation lead sound re-recording mixer, he started his career in 1978 at Soundmix where he brought his talents to many noteworthy features and TV shows before joining what is now Company 3 in 2015.
With a depth of understanding about the entire process that comes from his experience in the days of analog mixing, Cooke has a uniquely well-rounded understanding of how to get the most out of every sound element that travels through his mixing board. Notable recent work includes multiple collaborations with filmmaker extraordinaire Guillermo del Toro, including the evocative, worldbuilding soundtracks of Frankenstein and The Shape of Water (he’s on the teams nominated for Best Sound Academy Awards® for each) and the bizarre environment of the seedy carnival atmosphere that pervades Nightmare Alley.
Additionally, he brought out the aural aspects of the controlled chaos in Francis Coppola’s Megalopolis and has been recurring collaborator with the respected director David Cronenberg, mixing such powerful dramas as A Dangerous Method (Sony Pictures Classics) and Eastern Promises (Focus Features) and, most recently, The Shrouds (Janus Films in US), for which he and Company 3’s Mark Zsifkovits received the Canadian Screen Award for Best Sound Mixing.
Cooke’s work has been recognized in the TV realm as well, where he has earned both an Emmy® Award and Cinema Audio Society Award for the History Channel’s miniseries Hatfields & McCoys and an additional Emmy® nomination for Texas Rising.
