Senior Re-recording Mixer Steve Foster brings more than 25 years of experience as a sound artist to every project he touches. He has worked at Company 3 since 2016 and, with a background as a professional musician and composer, brings a unique artistic sensibility to his craft, defining his approach as: “Blending sound dynamics and sonic space to build dramatic tension.”

Foster’s recent credits as re-recording mixer include the acclaimed science fiction series The Expanse and Foundation, as well as Silo, which earned an AMPS Award nomination. His feature credits include Sofia Coppola’s biographical drama Priscilla and director Kogonada’s fantasy film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie.

Foster has received a Gemini Award for Dramatic Sound on Everest, a Genie Award for Overall Sound on director Paul Gross’ Passchendaele, and four MPSE Golden Reel Awards for ADR editing. He is a member of the MPSE and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. Most recently, he and Company 3 colleague Lana Maria Hattar received a CAS Award nomination for their work mixing the musically charged documentary Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery.

Foster has also achieved recognition in the music world through his work as re-recording mixer on Immersed, an immersive album for producer Justin Gray and ALMA Records that won a Grammy Award for Best Immersive Album. His expertise in immersive audio and surround sound formats allowed him to expand the album’s sonic landscape, leveraging Dolby Atmos to create a fully immersive listening experience. Released in Blu-ray Audio, Immersed reflects Foster’s passion for pushing the boundaries of how sound can be experienced.

Originally from Ontario, Foster studied music at Humber College in Toronto, where he began his path toward a career as an audio professional. In his spare time, he applies his technical expertise to restoring vintage audio gear from the 1970s, including reel-to-reel decks, receivers, and turntables, for himself and a select group of clients.
