Stefan Sonnenfeld is the Founder and CEO of Company 3, where he has led the company through decades of evolution in the ever-changing landscape of post-production. Over the past 25+ years, he has remained not only a visionary leader but also one of the industry’s most sought-after colorists, trusted by many of the world’s most innovative filmmakers. With an unparalleled eye for color, Sonnenfeld has helped shape the look of some of the most artistically and commercially successful films of all time, including globally recognized franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, and many others.
He recently worked on director Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, the highest-grossing music biopic; director Joseph Kosinski’s F1: The Movie, the highest-grossing auto racing film of all time; and director James Gunn’s Superman, a reimagining of the iconic superhero and a major global box-office success.
Upcoming projects include Jumanji 3, Way of the Warrior Kid, as well as episodic work across Dune: Prophecy, American Primeval, and the soon-to-be-released Lanterns Season 1.
Throughout his career, Sonnenfeld has worked alongside acclaimed cinematographers including Dan Mindel, Claudio Miranda, Henry Braham, Fabian Wagner, John Schwartzman, and Robert Elswit, as well as visionary directors such as J.J. Abrams and Michael Bay.
Leading industry organizations have recognized Sonnenfeld’s work throughout his career. Most recently, he received the Lumiere Award for Best Use of High Dynamic Range – Feature Film for his work on F1: The Movie. His accolades also include two Sports Emmy Awards: Outstanding Public Service Content for ‘Run With It’ and Outstanding Documentary Series for Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers. He also shares in the Super Clio Award for Best Super Bowl Ad for the acclaimed Tubi campaign ‘Rabbit Holes.’ Throughout his career, he has also received honors from organizations such as the Emmys, AICP, HPA, and the Kodak Film Awards.
Notably, Sonnenfeld was the first colorist inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). He is also a member of the Television Academy, the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), and BAFTA.
