Two prestigious organizations selected Senior Colorist J. Cody Baker to share his vast expertise with attendees at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas. The colorist, who has brought his artistic and technical prowess to some of the most talked-about shows streaming, including Amazon Prime’s series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Reacher, among others, participated in a lively and very informative discussion in the presentation area of Blackmagic Design’s booth.

An eager audience learned about color grading’s role in telling visual stories and Baker’s go-to techniques. Later that day, he also spoke to a large in-person and streaming crowd at the League of Filmmakers’ booth as part of their popular series of talks with an eclectic group of filmmakers, technical experts, and advanced workflow designers. Here, he shared some timeless and essential principles about the uses of color in filmmaking, and he spelled out to a fascinated crowd some key tips and tricks for filmmakers that can ensure their colorist can bring out the best in any project, from microbudget indie to the most massive studio tentpole.

“I was always hungry for this kind of information when I started out,” says Baker, “and I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned with others.”
