Shane Harris Leads ASC Master Class in Color Grading
June 4, 2026 Jun. 4, 2026The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Master Classes provide a select group of 26 aspiring DPs and industry professionals with a weeklong deep dive into the art and craft of cinematography.

As part of the program on May 16, students, along with several distinguished cinematographers serving as instructors, visited Theater 4 at Company 3 Harlow, where Senior Colorist Shane Harris color graded a series of class projects as the group observed.

During the session, Harris offered in-depth answers to a wide range of questions about the unique collaboration between cinematographers and colorists, best practices for getting the most out of that relationship, and the advantages of bringing color into a project’s workflow early in production—or even during preproduction.

Katy O’Loughlin, VP of Episodic Sales, kicked off the event with a brief tour of Company 3 Harlow and an introduction to aspects of the company’s services that were new to some students. Throughout the morning, she also offered valuable advice on getting the most out of the process and on working with a colorist early to develop creative ideas and show LUTs (lookup tables).

The ASC members in attendance, including major TV and feature cinematographers Shane Hurlbut, Charlie Lieberman, and Eric Branco, also shared thoughts and experiences about the strong creative partnerships they’ve developed with colorists throughout their careers, including many at Company 3.
