The 83rd Venice International Film Festival opens today, bringing some of the year’s most anticipated films and filmmakers to the Lido through September 12. Company 3 collaborated on four films premiering at this year’s festival.

Danny Boyle’s INK opens this year’s festival. Set in 1969, the film follows the rise of Rupert Murdoch’s The Sun and its transformation into Britain’s most influential tabloid. Screening in Competition, the film was shot by DP Alwin Küchler and graded by Senior Colorist Jean-Clément Soret, continuing Soret’s longstanding collaboration with Boyle.

Also competing for the Golden Lion is Bunker, a psychological thriller written and directed by Florian Zeller and starring Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Shot by DP Ben Smithard, BSC, with color by Senior Colorist Gareth Spensley.

Screening Out of Competition in the Non-Fiction section, Everest: The Other Side takes audiences to one of the world’s most formidable landscapes. Directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin follow ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson as they pursue an extraordinary shared dream, captured by DP Clair Popkin and graded by Senior Colorists Stefan Sonnenfeld and Yoomin Lee.

Maggie Gyllenhaal serves as President of the International Jury this year while also bringing her short film Flesh Impact to the festival, screening Out of Competition. Shot by Lawrence Sher, ASC, with color by Senior Colorist Jill Bogdanowicz, the film marks another collaboration for Gyllenhaal, Sher, and Bogdanowicz following The Bride! earlier this year.

The festival will also honor actor, director, and producer George Clooney with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. The recognition celebrates a career that includes a longstanding creative collaboration with Senior Colorist Stefan Sonnenfeld.
