The Vancouver International Film Festival returns for its 45th edition, bringing filmmakers and audiences together for 11 days of screenings, events, and conversations around film. Company 3 returns as a festival sponsor this year. As part of our sponsorship, Company 3 is providing the recipient of the Arbutus Award with $15,000 in-kind post-production services. The award is presented to the director of an outstanding feature film production in British Columbia. Across this year’s lineup, eight films featuring work from Company 3 artists will screen in several sections of the festival program.

Among this year’s Galas & Special Presentations is Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!, starring Pedro Pascal as a cellist whose life unfolds over 15 years. With cinematography by Damián García, the film was graded by Senior Colorist Jean-Clément Soret.

Also screening is James Gray’s Paper Tiger, starring Miles Teller, Scarlett Johansson, and Adam Driver. Set in 1986 Queens, the film follows a family drawn into a world of crime. With cinematography by Joaquín Baca-Asay, the film was graded by Senior Colorist Tim Masick.

Peter Farrelly’s I Play Rocky revisits the story behind Rocky, following a young Sylvester Stallone as he fights to star in his own screenplay. Shot by Sean Porter, ASC, the film was graded by Senior Colorist Jill Bogdanowicz.

In the Insights program, Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Nuisance Bear takes audiences to Churchill, Manitoba, where directors Gabriela Osio Vanden and Jack Weisman examine the complex relationship between polar bears, tourism, and conservation. Senior Colorist Joseph Bicknell graded the film.

Leah Nelson’s animated Tangles adapts Vancouver cartoonist Sarah Leavitt’s graphic memoir. Featuring the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Samira Wiley, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Bryan Cranston, the film follows a family as they navigate a mother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis, with color grading by Senior Colorist Thor Roos.

Additional festival selections include Aanikoobijigan [Ancestor/Great-Grandparent/Great-Grandchild], graded by Senior Colorist Dustin Wadsworth, and Chuuraa, with color by Senior Colorist Christopher Francis.

In Short Films: MODES, Sara Wylie’s Soft Transmission will make its World Premiere. Written, directed, and shot by Wylie, the experimental short uses eco-processed 8mm celluloid to explore family, chronic illness, and healing, graded by Senior Colorist Jimmy Hsu.
